Disney On Ice presents Mickey's Search Party

Review

By A sponsored Review by Trisha Adams January 6, 2020

We started our new year with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy, along with some other favorite Disney characters when we attended the Disney on Ice- Mickey’s Search Party. It was a privilege taking my three girls ages 5, 5 and 3 for their first Ice Show.

The excitement rose in all three girls as the line to get in, began to move. When we passed through security, they told the guards excitedly that they were going to see Mickey Mouse. Their smiles were infectious as the guards chatted with them about who they would get to see. As we walked into the lobby, their senses were bombarded with all the smells from the food, and the noise and lights from all the toys being sold by the vendors. This increased their excitement even more.

The moment had come for us to walk into the house and find our seats. I wish I could have captured their eyes as they walked in and took in all the seats, and the ice stage. They literally sparkled with glee. We quickly found our seats and it was just too much to sit still. A million questions peppered me. “Mommy, when will it start?” “Mommy, where is Anna and Elsa?” Momma, when will Mickey come?”

They didn’t have to wait long, as three pirates came out and engaged the audience, separating the sections with each pirate yelling their best “Aargghh!” Shortly thereafter, the hosts of the show came out and hyped up the audience some more, before Goofy, Donald, Minnie and Mickey skated out. Once that number was over, the story begins where the Pirates capture Tinkerbell to steal her magic pixie dust to give to Captain Hook. Mickey and the gang head out on adventure to fill up the magic meter by visiting several Disney friends.

Beloved characters from Beauty and the Beast, Moana, Coco, Toy Story, Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Frozen join in on the fun. They skated and danced to all our favorite Disney songs. They kept the crowd engaged throughout the entire performance with giant beach balls bouncing through the crowd, pulling different children out of their seats to assist in different parts of the performance, and also doing the wave.

The ever-changing background effects were amazing, and drew you right into each story, but what really kept the crowd on the edge of their feet was the stunts, tricks, and acrobatics added into the different numbers by the characters themselves.

In Beauty and the Beast, we saw as Belle took to the air with the Dishes. In Toy Story, we saw the green army guys catapult onto a chair suspended by a pole high in the air. In Little Mermaid, we saw as Eric and Arielle gracefully swayed through the air on ribbons. And in Aladdin, we saw as Al swung from a rope with one hand.

The acrobatics and stunts didn’t end there. In Coco, they had two dancers climb high on single poles and sway back and forth, almost looking as if they might fall off. And in Frozen, some of the Icemen, jumped and flipped over ice ramps. Throughout the entire performance, the music, the ice skating, the characters, and the stage design was flawless and enjoyable. There was one part, in Moana, as they had Te Ka in the background that had been a little scary. But Moana quickly gave back the heart and she turned back to Te Fiti, and all was well.

When the Magic Meter was full, Tinkerbell was released, and this signaled that the show was coming to an end. The ending dance number brought everyone back out, including a few extras, like Tigger and Pooh. At the end of the song, the characters waved, and the night was over, sending everyone back out into the night, all just a little happier.

Through out the night, I would glance over to see if my girls were having fun, and each time all I could see was the pure joy and wonder on their faces. That had brought tears to my eyes. It had truly been a magical night, as only Disney can do.

If you have never had the opportunity to attend Disney on Ice, I highly recommend it. You will have an amazing time. You just might leave feeling like a kid again.

On a side note: two of my girls have some sensory issues and food allergies. The Toyota Center was awesome in accommodating our personal food brought in for our allergic kiddos. Also make note that they did serve peanuts in a bag at the vendors. We also brought in noise cancelling headphones to help with the loud sounds.
