Garden Works For Kids

Family Adventure Series

By Trisha Adams July 7, 2020

Garden Works for Kids has quickly become one of my favorite places! Every Friday for the last 4 months, I have gone in to pick up our weekly Garden Craft! From the moment I pull in to the parking area, I began to feel a peculiar peace wash over me.

I am usually met by the smiling face of Donna or Gloria as the hand me the current week’s craft. Often, I find myself in deep conversation with Donna about a variety of things. Sometimes it’s the history of how the garden came to be, other times, it is the new plans they have or something they just completed. But every time, I am overwhelmed by how much they both love and miss having the children in the garden.

In recent weeks, Garden Works was finally given the go-ahead to reopen, with social distancing guidelines, and certain limitations. Donna and Gloria immediately set out to find ways to comply with the state's guidelines, while also opening their doors so the children could get back to nurturing and learning about the gardens.

Over Father’s Day Weekend, they had a sold-out BBQ to raise money for their non-profit, which takes care of the day to day obligations of the gardens, while also giving back to their community. They recently offered Open Play Sessions during the week next week, and those immediately sold out as well!

In July, they will be offering their annual Summer Day Camp, with limited capacity to continue to follow the social distancing guidelines to keep the children safe. The first session is almost booked solid, and their second sessions are also almost full!

There are so many things for the kids to do while at the Garden. Seeing the chickens in the chicken run, playing in the play area, digging in the sand, planting something fun, and so much more. Gardenworks will be offering specific open play days for you to enjoy. Check their Facebook page to sign up. They also offer private birthday parties also.

On Friday, I brought my little ones and my grandkids with me to pick up our weekly craft. We had the privilege of exploring the gardens just a bit before leaving. It was so much fun watching them play and explore, while also taking in the beauty of nature and gardens all around them! We can’t wait to go back again!

Check out there Website, Facebook, and Instagram for all of the events and activities they currently offer.
